Hi all!
I took the plunge and completely took apart both ma.
meters...
Sometime in their earlier life, both meters had to have been
subjected to a serious current overload...
I found both meters to have burnt out shunt coils...
To actually see inside the meters, I had to remove the indicator
scale plate...
In both meters, the shunt coils were fried, and fell to bits
when touched...
My next mission is to mess with some resistance values
which hopefully will do the trick!
This has been a great learning curve, with so much great
input from a lot of knowledgeable people...
I thought back many years ago when the Wire Chiefs in the
plant wud make shunt coils from old heat coil windings...
I remember repairing an old VOM (Analog) using the windings
from one of these old coils...It seems it was a very low
resistance, perhaps an ohm or two, so long ago,
can't remember for sure!
Anyways, thanks to all who so willingly helped out with
this "Different" kind of problem...
Cheers to all!
Ken
