I've been using ATF (automatic trans fluid) for several decades as a light
machine oil. It is perfect for ressurecting TTY machines that have been sitting
for long periods of time as it will help dissolve the old oil and grease. 
Never had a problem and have restored about a dozen machines the past 3 years
or so.
