IBM US EBCDIC has a "Cent" symbol. Picture (I found) here:-

The code points were called "Primary Currency Symbol" and "Secondary
Currency Symbol" and contained different symbols on non US terminals and
printers
So on a UK terminal what was a "$" on a US printer became "£"  and what was
"Cent" on us because "$" on a UK, and visa versa..... 

Printing quotations was a nightmare....
