Well said, sir!
Back when I was living in Sydney, we had a VHF/UHF Postcode Contest (zip
code to you Americans), where we had to work as many postcodes as possible
(simplex, no repeaters); there was no prize, but merely recognition. I
used to return my sheets "I certify that I used no repeaters, and that I
had fun".
"Sorry, OM, we've worked before; CQ Postcode 2076!" There was the
occasional query from an out-of-stater when the lift was on, wondering
what the heck was happening...
And then there was a proposed packet radio contest, which I immediately
killed off when I pointed out that it could easily be automated :-) Just
two threads: one calling CQ, and the other listening for calls that I
hadn't logged (and remember that everyone is 5x9, and what was your
callsign again?).
