Christian,
Yes, you're absolutely right about 1980's-era Aperture. I must have been
playing the game at 1:30 in the morning with a fuzzy sick brain to think
their machines looked like Apple ][s. While an Apple ][ of some flavor is
on my list of historical machines to acquire, I never owned one, and I only
have vague memories of using one as a wee lad in kindergarten.
That's an interesting find. Numbers only does make sense to have so few
keys.
Christopher,
It seems at least some of the people at Valve appreciate their roots more
than many these days. I didn't know about this until earlier today (I would
have loved to have joined in at the time), but you may find this link a fun
read: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-04-the-
first-anyone-had-seen-publicly-of-portal-2-was-relayed-over-this-modem-from-

When we do interviews of potential sysadmin candidates at work, I always
try to end the interview with the question "what is the baudot encoding for
the letter F?". So far nobody has had a clue as to what baudot even is, and
my co-interviewers have gotten into the habit of rolling their eyes, which
makes it difficult to maintain a straight face when I tell the candidate
that it's extremely critical they know the answer.
