I can't imagine anything being manufactured for use in hobby settings -
hobbyists always make use of things left over from Real Business.
Ordinarily the thing just winds up the tape after it comes out of the
tape reader, when you don't expect to need it anymore and don't want it
piling up on the floor or in a waste basket. Just to keep the office
clean, and at the end of the day you toss the wound up tape into the
trash. If you have some reason to need to read something from the tape
again you have to unwind it by hand and search for what you need. But
those situations are extremely rare.
If you expect to re-read a tape that has been wound, there are center
unwinders that allow pulling the tape out the center of the wound-up
roll rather than from the outer edge.
