     Common mispronunciation. I think the military adopted it either 
because the writer of the handbook didn't know any better or because 
they thought the correct spelling would confuse the troops.
     The one that always stops me is alinement. I think this was an 
attempt at simplified spelling but have not seen other examples in 
military handooks. They just left the g out.
