I can't identify it beyond saying it looks like a tape perforator
preceding the "iron horse" GPE. It seems a lot of the early stuff
transmitted from perforated tape rather than directly from the keyboard.
One reason was a product that could be used in time-division multiplex
without requiring the operator to type in sync with the multiplex,
as in the original Baudot system.
I've read of, but never seen, punched tape systems where the punches
of a character were not all in one vertical column, but were spaced
along the tape, so each bit could be read as it was needed for
transmission. (and which must have run through a lot of tape,
compared with the more modern designs)
So identifying it is going to take some more analysis, digging into
how it works. Look for nameplates, patent plates, etc. and also try
to operate it by hand and show what it does.
