[GreenKeys] Friden SPD-V

Geeezzz... the 'E' problem has come back, but with having the print that Gary provided, it was easy to see that the Anti Repeat really was causing the problem. So, although I do not see the E repeating something is causing that key to want or look like it is repeating. Well, something for tomorrow.

Well..... I think that I had a sticky punch rod and that wasthe reason the 'E' key would lock out the keyboard. I removed the punch unitand operated it by hand to see what was happening. I could see that some of thepunch rods were free and traveled back and forth easily, while others weresluggish. With some lube and soak time, then a few hundred by hand operationsall the punch rods seem to be free. Reassembled it and now the 'E' key workswith the punch unit on. Yet, the feed tape still causes a parity error anddrops out the keyboard lock relay. I spent a lot of time trying to trace outthe parity circuit. I still can not find any Friden print that shows any sort of paritycircuit. My attempt to trace this out, just gave me a headache. My poor eyesight and this tucked inside meant I had to use a mirror to see some areas. Igot confused with the backwards versus the frontward stuff. BUT... From what Icould tell the feed punch rod only operates one normally open contact and this contact willdrop out the lock relay. I can not see another contact in series with thiscontact. In fact if I just short this contact the lock relay will drop out. I wonder why the feed punch would even be involved with parity? Iwonder if after you feed tape, you have to switch the punch on and off? Cananyone verify that for me? That is with the punch unit on, feed the paper tape, then is the keyboard locked after that, or not? I still maybe missing something. Thanks Mike. Mike Zahorik (414) 254-6768

Simon, I have not found the schematic yet and also little onthe parity stuff. But the parity idea was a good clue. Just below the punchrods are a number of contacts that only have two wires leaving the set. Iassume these are the parity contacts. So I just removed the 2 wires and now theFeed Tape switch works, but the 'E' key will not. I also shorted the two paritywires and it indeed drops out the keyboard lock relay, so this is part of the problem. Iwill have to more closely inspect all the contacts. Something is either stuck, welded or ???? The 'E' seems to work a few times with the parity off, but stilllocks up the keyboard after one or two punches. Thanks for the help, stilllooking for the schematic and why the 'E' key doesn't work correctly whenpunching. Mike Mike Zahorik (414) 254-6768

that is the parity check kicking in. probably a faulty contact in the
array of contacts in the punch module. the schematics are available at
bitsavers but several flexo types are combined into one pdf
