The Nassau County (Long Island) New York Telephone Company TTY
shop
used a SEARS dishwasher to clean 15 and 28 typing units in the
70's. We added
standard dishwasher detergent and ran it for about a half hour.
The
typing units came out looking new...the 28's felt washers were
white!
We would then dry them off with compressed air, give them a full
lube job, and run them on the FOX machine for an hour. Never had
any problems with rust, etc.

GM OMs;
I visited a friend (Ham) who was a Teletype repairman at the phone
company, back in New York.
They had a dish washer that they'd mount the typing unit in and
run the D-W through its cycle.
I don't remember if they used water or some other cleaner.
Maybe you could ask your wife if you can use your D-W to clean the
TTY.
OH - when you ask her, please post her reply: it's kinda quiet on
here this morning... :-)

ASPIRE TO GREATNESS!
But remember: no one ever assassinated
a refrigerator repairman.
