 At age 61 I can sympathize with the "vision thing". My wife, who is a
jeweler, got a gizmo like this for examining small stones and it works

I have a friend who uses something similar to work with SMT devices. I
inherited her old loupe, which is similar to this

but without the light. As parts get smaller, we just have to get craftier!
