The ARPAnet reached four nodes on this day in 1969 (anyone know which?);
at least one "history" site reckoned the third node was connected in 1977
(and I'm still waiting for a reply to my correction). Well, I can believe
that perhaps there were only three left by then...
PS: I maintain a calendar of "interesting" historical stuff, mostly
computer/military/crypto/political/etc (warning: my politics tends to
verge towards the left) which I post to a nerdy list, with relevant stuff
going to e.g. the moderated crypto list. If I was to join ITTY as has
always been my intention (but as a "glass" operator, I'm afraid) would
there be any interest in these bulletins? I've attached today's issue as
an example.

-------------- next part --------------
Subject: On this day... (Second radio station, Werner Heisenberg, 21st Amendment, King Bhumibol Adulayadej, ARPAnet now 4 nodes)
The second broadcast station in Australia, 2FC (Farmer and Co), started up
in 1923; it's now part of the ABC network.
Although we know that quantum physicist Werner Heisenberg was born in
1901, we do not know precisely where; of course, all programmers are
familiar with "heisenbugs" (a bug that cannot be reproduced at will,
usually when the boss is watching). Trivia: he was involved in the Nazi
nuclear project, and collaborated with Niels Bohr...
In 1933 the good ol' USA passed the 21st Amendment; this repealed the 18th
Amendment (Prohibition) which turned out not to be such a great idea after
all.
King Bhumibol Adulayadej HS1A (SK) was born in 1927; he was also Patron of
the Radio Amateur Society of Thailand.
And the ARPAnet reached four nodes in 1969; at least one "history" site
reckoned the third node was connected in 1977 (and I'm still waiting for a
reply from them). Well, I can believe that perhaps there were only three
left by then...
