[GreenKeys] Handling CRs - NON-Overline Mod kit

Eric

You have probably noted that the type box in your 28 has a number of 'empty spots' in it. This is where
the hammer strikes for various non-printing functions: Space, LTRS, FIGS, CR, LF, Blank, Bell, etc.
So, if you have implemented the 'Non-Overline' thing, the LF may not do a Line Feed, but the machine will
go through a 'print cycle' and the hammer will strike in one of the 'empty' spots.

I suppose it is possible to have the machine do a Line Feed upon receiving the LF character, but from what
I recall, it is the CR character that does both.

One of the few reasons you might want to have independent LF and CR would be for RTTY Art, which sometimes
USES overlining to create shades that just don't occur with any characters in the typebox. There are a
number of famous 'artworks' that the creators took a lot of time creating and experimenting with different
character overprint combos to achieve a wide range of 'shapes' for their work.

If you have contesting in mind, forget that!

BTW, does anyone else have a problem getting mail directly to Eric, or am I the lone exception that runs
into the mystical mail services 'reject' system?

Ralph - W8ROI

I can't think of any scenario in RTTY contesting where a CR should not be accompanied by a LF, but I have yet to see a LF sent alone or any reason to do so for that matter. What is the LF behavior as a result of the mod you suggested, I assume unmodified?

I notice that the overwhelming practice is to use CRs in macros but not insert LFs, which causes the printer to type over previous text. It was so bad at one point that a particular station I was monitoring went through 3 QSOs and all the text (including his QSO partners) was printed on the same line! Completely unintelligible.
