[GreenKeys] Newbie - Siemens T100A Questions

I have acquired a Siemens T100A teletype machine and want to get in on air
using an Icom HF radio. It looks in excellent condition and has a tape
punch and reader.

When I power it up the motor runs and make lots of suitable noises, the
ribbon moves up and down, but pressing the keys doesn't do anything. Its
like its waiting for a signal or something.

At the rear of the machines is a propriety lung rectangular plug with lots
of pins and a cable with a 3.5mm plug  (which looks like it might have
plugged into an old fashioned switchboard ).  There is also a phone line
cable which has been cut off.

Any ideas on why the keys don't work and what do I need to do to interface
it to my radio.
