Pete, Wayne, Jim & Robert…

Pete:

Thank you so much for that photo and link - that helps out a lot! I’ll see if I can get to those terminals tonight (maybe tomorrow since it’s getting late - tired - busy day ;o ...) and also that link explains why the ohm readings on the selector magnets differ form the other diagram I have. Thanks again ^^ !

Wayne:

Nah, unfortunately I ordered those fuses from Mouser about a year ago… don’t have anything close that can go higher to :/ . I highly suspect that the perforator-side has a short somewhere because a year ago, when I hooked up the regulated DC supply, the teletype was set to keyboard/perforator (what it was set to when I fired it up… the lamp glowed on the left side, etc.)… but when I stitched the switch to perforator only, the amps on the power supply surged, the thing went totally dead and the lamp has been dark since (this happened while the fuses were in transit via the mail :/ *sigh...). Only since rewiring that one new wire, have I got current to flow through the teletype when set to keyboard only (the lamp still won’t light, though). I eventually will have to get the resistor thing figured out for the external DC supply... but that will be down the road still - will just have to rely off the fuses for now ;o .

Jim:

Ah, don’t think I have the motor controller then. I do have the toggle switch… in one diagram that Pete shared:
http://www.rtty.com/development/teletype/model-15/index.html
…what I have is the 1023(?) switch on the wiring diagram (upper-left corner of the diagram). So I assume, since I will be running the loop supply at 60ma, that I will need to have the switch downward, in the parallel position??? Right now it’s upwards in the series position.

Robert:

>But if yours has a 1/4" 2-circuit jack, Line means the external signal line. Unless the machine has a switch for doing this, you will probably need to plug a shorted phone plug into the line jack in order to get Or at least you will if the loop supply is internally connected.

Mmmm, I have one red phone jack… if I’m reading you right. Also, if I’m reading you right, since my loop supply is external, I should… jump terminals 41 and 42 (attached), in order to… get the typing unit working (since it doesn’t do anything when pressing keys)??? Sorry, your message kinda got chopped off there towards the end ;p . As for a switch… the only switches that I have - that I’m aware of, are the send/receive/break switch, the keyboard/perforator switch and 60/20ma switch. Oh - and the power switch, too ;p .

Once again, thank you everyone so much for you help ^^ !!! Slowly - almost, I am getting there ;D !!!~

Sincerely,
Eric :)

Another is the statement that both the Pulling and the Holding type selector magnets can be wired series for 20 mA or parallel for 60 mA. This is only true for the holding magnets. The pulling magnets are already in series for 60 mA.

But if yours has a 1/4" 2-circuit jack, Line means the external signal line. Unless the machine has a switch for doing this, you will probably need to plug a shorted phone plug into the line jack in order to get Or at least you will if the loop supply is internally connected.

I know there’s a short in the perforator section that I’m going to find here soon (hopefully)… keeps on blowing the 62ma fuse that I have whenever I switch over to it. Starting to look at the mechanical side of it, too… but first a few of questions as I go along:…

Two wires, I believe, go up to a resistor, mounted above the magnets (with three wires to/from the resistor) and then eventually lead to a switch next to it, which has six wires coming to/from it (top-left side of the main unit). Can’t find this on any wiring diagrams that I’ve seen. The switch is in the up position and I think it reads “S” (going off of memory - the teletype is in the basement right now). I think I know what the switch is, but don’t know where to trace the wiring to with the ohm meter since it’s not on any diagrams ;o . I guess my question is, help on locating, please :) ?
