Joe,
have a look over at Nick England's Navy radio site, particularly the page on patch panels:

Subject: [GreenKeys] need ideas for jack field
Hi all,
As I said before, I am attempting to set up my TTY units to use as a simulated "real" coms station. One thing that I am working on is setting up several jack fields with six jacks each to connect various devices into a TTY loop. My problem is this... How do I set it up so that there will be no short circuits if some nincompoop (me) plugs a loop power supply into the jack field first? ORRrrrrr, should I incorporate the loop supply into the back of the jack field itself, so that one would not need to plug in a loop supply at all? This would mean a loop supply for each field, which is not a problem.
Any thoughts or schematics?
Thank you!
Joe
