I have had similar experiences.  It usually seems to happen on items 
that I have made a "Best Offer" on, then the seller makes a counteroffer 
which I do not accept, then the offer/counteroffer period expires, and I 
see, or get a notice, that the item "sold".  I have been suspicious 
about the validity of these "sales".  I can't imagine the worst idiot on 
the face of the planet paying $10K for a Model 32 . . . not even if they 
mistook it for a Model 33.
