[GreenKeys] Model 33 progress....

I have been working on the 33 I received last week (before and after photos
attached), and after solving a few issues I am now able to print. As you
can see from the photos it needed some cleanup, and parts were stuck from
hardened grease. I cleaned it with solvent and compressed air and oiled
it thoroughly. I found a couple of springs that had fallen out (I checked
carefully before I disposed of the solvent). I found where the small
springs went and re-installed them, however I found a ½” x 1” compression
spring that I don’t think belongs to this unit.

The punch and reader need a lot of work, so I left them out for now. And
yes, I installed a new rubber print hammer. I also attached a new power
cord, the old one had been cut off. When I powered it up it was running
open-loop in local mode which I traced to the rotor brushes on the
transmitter-distributor not making contact. It now prints, and prints the
correct characters. But I still have a couple issues:

The dashpot binds. It’s clean and lightly oiled, and the vent hole is
open. However it seems to bind about half way in, and resists pulling out.
If the carriage returns home from the far right it has enough momentum to
enter all the way into the dashpot, but it sticks on the way out causing the
first couple of characters typed to overlap.

The bell rings with each character typed. I assume this is something wrong
with the right-margin sensor, but I can’t find anything stuck or missing.

Several of the keys have small cracks, and are quite oxidized. I know this
has been discussed on Greenkeys before, but is there any new ideas on
refurbishing the keys?

The bit-bucket is cracked along the top edge. Before I hit it with some
plastic glue or epoxy, does anyone know what works best for this type of
plastic?

The cover is in reasonably good shape, but will need cleanup and some
repair. There are a few chunks missing on the ridge along the front edge
of the plastic cover. What would make a good filler? The clear
plastic window in the lid also needs to be re-attached.

Despite my detailed description of how to pack it, including shipping bolts,
the company that shipped it to me said “it’s already on a pallet ready to
ship”. They just laid it down on its back in a cardboard box on the
pallet and filled the box with scrap packing material. Fortunately, it
arrived without any more damage (except possibly the cracked bit-bucket?).

I will need the clear plastic clip that holds down the paper tape on the
reader, and will need the punch cover / buttons.
