I can't speak to the qualities of the specific instrument you linked, but
yes - it's very similar to the type I know & use. Mine uses 4x 1.5V AA
cells, rather than a single 9V battery.

Here's a quick pic of the type I own. My hunch is that it's no better (and
likely, no worse) than any other commonly available unit:
