I remember when the 43's came out in the mid 70's.Ma Bell was
still
struggling with the 37's and 40's that nobody wanted. The 43's
tiny print and oddball
paper didn't help. And not having the paper tape/TD unit
available right
away probably made people go elsewhere (plus, paper tape was
following
the Do-Do bird out the door). A nice new 43 was fun to play with
(I must
admit, a nice new 33 was fun to play with); I doubt 43's sold
anywhere
near as well as the 33's.
Teletype as a corporate entity ended around the same time as Ma
Bell,
but the Teletype machine really died in the late 70's. Of course,
considering
that the Model 15 is almost 90 years old and still typing away,
there
was a great legacy left behind by the folks from Skokie.
