"There is no start capacitor on the 814 motors, just the start relay."
Thank you for (again) clarifying that. So that's good news, one more thing
not to worry about.
@Brad
So it's kinda down to the motor and the starting relay, then.
Basic relay terminology: A typical relay is composed of a frame, a solenoid
/ coil and an armature (the moving part). The frame serves as a mount for
the solenoid, and bears one or more +fixed+ contacts. The armature bears
one or more +moving+ contacts. The solenoid coil can be spec'd to power
from any given voltage and/or frequency.
For a relay to operate correctly, two primary conditions must be met: The
armature must both respond correctly to the application of power to the
coil, and the contacts must have adequate capacity to switch the required
voltage & current (they must not be fouled, bent, burned or worn-out).
A relay's configuration is denoted just as with any switch. As with a
common switch, a relay may be SPST, SPDT, DPDT, 4PDT and so on, any number
& combination of poles & states.
