Greetings from the WET NORTHWEST - - -

Some years back I had a somewhat in-depth conversation with Bill Henry
about working on ST-6000s.

It all boiled down to "It ain't for the faint of heart".

They cannot easily be re-tuned. I am not sure if they ever produced a
shop manual, but it seemed to me that re-tuning from 2125/2295 to some
other tone pair was a complex process and that it took a lot of time,
thus dollars when it was in their shop.

The ST-6 is a grape when it comes to re-tuning.

The ST-8000A? That was a device guaranteed for 30,000 hours between
failures, and they had to be sent back to the factory.

I once repaired an ST-8000A that had gone totally dark. Took about two
hours, and that time was spent rummaging through the W7TTY stock piles
to find an exact replacement for........The MAIN POWER SWITCH. (had to
have a black handle).
