My experience with the AP machines, M-15 and M-20, always on.

Motor control might have been just one more maintenance failure point, considering the AP machines were not always at locations which had maintenance personnel.

Curious as Our UPI printers do not seem to have anything internal except wires going to the coils and wire for power to the machine.

I remember the UPI model 15 motor ran continuously at my local BC station.
