FWIW - - -
Most radio wire machines ran 24/7, as the radio wire was seldom dead -
they ran 24/7.
The press service 6-level machines on the teletypesetter circuits would
have motor controls, as the teletypesetter service usually had hours
that would assure that all stories for consumption were sent well ahead
of press time, and the machines did not have to run 24/7.
Commodity News Service machines had motor controls, as they were not
watched 24/7, but when the commodites markets (pork bellies, cow
tongues, and such) were watched during normal slaughter hours. This
aided in watching labor costs as they did not have to run the kill
systems after their days run was completed.
