[GreenKeys] Did UPI and AP printers stay in mor on always or was there motor conotrol?

Did UPI and AP printers stay in motor  on always or was  there motor 
control?
 
Curious as  Our  UPI printers  do not seem to have anything  internal 
except wires  going to the coils and  wire  for power to  the machine.
