There’s a very dirty 28 “Skintight” RO listed on Ebay, if that’s what you’re
talking about. It uses a standard 28 typing unit and base (RO or
keyboard). It is not a “Compact” 28.

Subject: [GreenKeys] M28 Compact on EPAY...
Hi all!
Was looking at this item this morning, and was wondering
if all the 28 compacts used this case/cover style...
I seem to remember the units used on the Reuters "Ultronic"
news service as being more rectangular with a more
"Square-ish" appearance...Is it possible there were other
covers, i.e. early/late design?
These units were used for a few years by Reuters up here in
Canada, and were later replaced by Extel RO's...
The 28 compact RO's used, were very stripped down with
no associated LESU...
They had no line relay, were operated on local loops
in city @ 130V +/- 130VDC 60 ma neutral...
I was the only TTY maintainer in the shop that worked on
these units...They ran very hot, and to further complicate
matters, Reuters installed a skin tight sound cover over the
entire machine...
I would average at least one main shaft seizure a week with
these units...
As anyone who has worked on these units will attest,
the typing units are not the same, and cannot be swapped
out for a standard 28LP due to main shaft differences...
Back to the cover issue, perhaps our good friend Nick can
comment, as I believe he has several of these M28 compacts...
Cheers & thanks!
