This could be adapted for use if the loop resistance is changed by equipment patching and would be automatic.

Since most of us have a love and a somewhat substantial investment of
time and money in Teletype machines, seems like a small investment in
a non-marginal loop supply would make sense. The transformer
mentioned in Cory's post with the dual 115 volt primaries and
secondaries looks to be somewhat ideal in that it could be wired to
produce a 60 vac output (primaries in series in 115/120 volt
countries). The secondaries can be wired as a center tapped output
feeding two diodes or each winding could be used separately with
bridge rectifiers for two independent loop supplies producing 75 to
80 vdc each.
