Eureka! I now have a happily humming WU 2-B, sounding like new, thanks to Eric’s USB Board!
Since I am mostly Mac, I am running the board using Cool-Term, an ASCII Terminal Emulator, on my MacBook, and cutting and pasting AP News into it. Flawless text copy.
I spent several frustrating hours working on a PC with Heavy Metal, which I would love to get up and running. HM connects top the port, and sends the short string of RYs on the serial setup page easily. But when t’s asked to do anything longer, HM returns “ERROR: Cannot write to port, port disabled." I am using the new INF file, and the two new files heavymetal.pl and CommPort.pm which Eric recently provided to N4TTY. I am using a Win7 machine.
Many thanks to Eric for making the jump out of the RS-232-C world and providing a wonderful USB adapter.
I haven’t been this delighted with my TTY hobby in years and look forward to refining connections, and providing automatic news feeds to my AP Model 15.
