solution and have an option for character set translation. The ascii  
stuff was just an afterthought, because I was surprised to note that the  
hardware technically could kind of manage on a 20mA loop as well as  
60mA. :) I might try to get 8-bit passthru working for now and save the  
large menu of parity, etc options for another firmware  revision.
