Another reason restoration of the device would be difficult is that when
newly manufactured the print was pretty readable, but as time went on it
got worse and worse. This was partly caused by paper dust collecting
on the electrodes, and then by attempts to remove the paper dust and
unclog the nozzles.

If there had been a market for a high-speed tape printer, meaning one
nozzle and set of deflecting plates, the product might have been a
winner. As a page printer trying to keep 40 sets of nozzles and
deflection plates working alike was just more than could be achieved.

Right across the street from Teletype in Skokie was the A B Dick Co.
You might want to look up Videojet, which was their take on the same
kind of product. I don't know if there was any swapping of ideas between
the two companies. The initial work on Inktronic was done at Wrightwood
so no A B Dick engineers nearby at the time.
