Ed,
Using the terminal program, you enter the command mode of Eric's board 
and then type "automsg". Then you enter the text you want to save. Type 
"EOF" on the last line and the terminal program sends it to Eric's uP.

Editing is done in the Terminal program and some seem to have better 
editing capabilities than others.
