Hi all...
Gabriel had posted of his 'Failed' attempts to repair his ribbon
Issue...
I am sure there are quite a few GK'ers who have Model 42/43
Teletypes, and are experiencing the same problems...
It seems extreme to discard the machine for the lack of a
Ribbon cartridge...likely, in the UK, it is near impossible
to locate a source...
I can remember working on these machines quite a few years ago,
and dealing with print head & clutch roller issues...At least then,
spares were readily available...
When Teletype finally ceased operations, their spare parts were sold
off, to I believe, a company called Telemechanics(?)...Don't know
If they are still around, but if, so perhaps they mite be of help...
Another possibility is another ribbon manufacturer has
"Cloned" the product which was quite common in the
after market industry...
The largest users of the Model 43 line were computer companies
like Honeywell etc...
Western Union used them (The Model 42ASR & BSR) in the
later days of Telex to replace the aging Model 32's...
More to the point, there must be a source for these ribbon
cartridges somewhere in the U.S. (Old stock for sure)...
Even if they need to be re-inked, the internal parts wud still
be functional...
It is critical, the ribbon clutch feed rollers be clean & working
properly...Most of my printing issue service calls involved
simply de-gumming these problem prone rollers...
Hopefully, a source can be found for them, as it wud be great
news for all those collectors/operators who have them...
Sorry, not much help here, but lots of support and encouragement
for the quest...
Cheers and good luck!
