[don't think this went the first time (got an error message that the

Western Union originally used page printers (back in about 1915). But WU
was always trying to improve its efficiency and message through-put. One
problem with page printers was if there was garble in any part of the
message, the whole message had to be repeated. By going to a strip
printer, only the garbled part of the message had to be repeated and
they could then "cut & paste" the correction. Also, they didn't have to
waste time sending CR & LF. Both Morkrum and Kleinschmidt had been
making similar page printers for WU. At WU's request, they tipped the
page printer onto its back and removed the platen to produce the WU
M20-21-22 tape printers. See enclosed KEC models.
Have fun,
Duncan
