Mike,

The error rate is zero. Of course the 33 has open contacts and a piece of lint can get in and bounce around a bit causing errors. Same in the punch, maybe a bit of debris falls into the mechanism causing a couple of errors.

You can tell if you have a manual TR by checking the control handle. If you move it to start and it stays there, its a manual. If it springs back to center, its an auto. Also, the manual has only one contact wire on top and the auto has 4. More ways are the end cable Molex connector will be full of pins on an auto, only 7 on a manual. You can use an auto PS in a manual TR, but not the other way. The auto PS has a relay in it to hold the TR in the run position.

Dont confuse an auto or manual reader with "reader control". This is an extra circuit board in the UCC-6 to control the TR from the computer. When this extra board is installed, the TR will always be a manual.

Subject: [GreenKeys] model 33 ASR reader/punch units

Well..... I lubed my punch unit some more and exercised it more. It's working pretty good now. I've made more than 1000 punches and each one has been correct. I don't know what the error rate is for this equipment, but this looks good to me.

Started to look at the reader. I have a separate power supply that mounts under the sub base. It has a number 183087 on the circuit board. My print FS-8 shows that this power unit is for the reader feed magnet. I have a question, The FS-8 print, says the 183087 is for the 'manual' reader and a 183079 is for an 'automatic' reader. What is the difference between the auto and manual readers. Obviously I must have the manual reader.
