3D printing has gotten a lot of excited press in recent years because of
the advent of relatively cheap machines. Sometimes I see suggestions for
making TTY parts with them.
It is possible, but just for a dose of reality, I just read an interview
with Jay Leno talking about making auto restoration parts like connecting
rods and pistons with his 3D printer - but the article didn't mention that
the model he uses starts at $185,000.

So, I wouldn't count on making replacement metal parts unless you can first
make a winning lottery ticket....
