I removed the key board from my sub base and started to lookat it to see if it may work. I first found a few tabs bent that would not allowsome of the keylevers to move up and down. There is a little rust on these, butI don't think it will stop the unit from operating. There were a few key leversthat were stuck in the down position. This turned out to be, one end of the keylever was not in the correct slot. The Shift and Control keys were also stuck. This turned out to be stuck code bars. This was the code bar in the back of theunit. It was the closest to the mouse activity. After using a little degreaserand lube, I got the code bar and the T levers to move. Seems all the code barsand T levers are now loose and moving correctly. Next I found that theUniversal lever was stuck. It was rusted to the back pivot. After cleaning itup it now moves. Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe that the keyboard worksas follows.1. the user presses a key2. the key lever pushes down some code bars3. some the code bars transfer and trip the Universal lever.4. the universal lever allows the contact bail to rotate andallows the contact wires to work. 5. Here I'm a little foggy, I think that the contact wirespresent a parallel representation of the key to the distributor. Not sure howthe distributor knows when it should work.6. the distributor converts the parallel code into serialcode. 7. once the serial code has been sent then the Universallever is tripped and the contact bail opens the contacts wires. Also not surehow this works either. Next I tried to measure continuity of the contact wires tothe J7 plug. I got nothing, all open or very high resistance. Looking at theright side contact wire assembly, I found the that the lugs connecting to theterminal bar were badly corroded. I also found that one of the terminal barswas loose. See picture. I can either clean or replace the lugs and I figured Iwould glue the small terminal bar back onto the terminal assembly with epoxy. Anythoughts? Also how should I clean the contact wires and terminal bars? Thanks Mike. Mike Zahorik (414) 254-6768
