Nick, your restoration work is amazing! Great pictures, I can hardly believe it’s the same machine!

First let me say GREAT JOB to Mike for saving the machine from the dumpster.
In a counter-discouragement, I've successfully restored several pieces of seriously mouse-infected transmitters that were chock full of relays and mouse poop. I had to disassemble all the way down to the nut/bolt level and replace the hardware and wiring when absolutely necessary. I did learn the machines intimately and a lot of stuff cleaned up quite well with Simple Green after a strong session with the air hose pushing and the shop-vac pulling.
I have a moused 28KSR in the garage that I expect to get running - high pressure water then WD-40 to get it clean and stabilized.
Now it turns over by hand OK. We'll see what happens - I may have to eat my words after I get it on the bench.
For inspiration, here's photos of ricebox's "Rusty" resurrection.

So I say Mike, go to it! and Good Luck!
