FWIW, electrical and electronic equipment supplied to the Signal Corps will
usually have the Signal Corps Order Number on the nameplate. Signal Corps
Order Numbers from before W-II until around 1958 or 1960 have the 2-digit US
federal fiscal year embedded in them. Up until 1976, the federal fiscal
year began on 01 July of the previous calender year. Since then, it has begun
on 01 October. In any case, Teletype equipment supplied to the Signal
Corps (U.S. Army) is self dating within a year. Unfortunately, U.S. Navy
Contract Numbers never did this. Note that Signal Corps orders are equivalent to
Navy contracts. Signal Corps contracts are not related to specific
equipment and AFAIK there is no Navy equivalent. In any case, Signal Corps
equipment of the period tends to be self-dating within a year.
