[GreenKeys] Anyone using TU's?

I don't have a machine teletype any more (house is too small so gave
away my 28ASR 15 years ago), but I do use a T/U rather than sound card
software. I picked up an absolutely brand new HAL ST-8000A off eBay a
bit over a year ago. It was one of those that NSA had bought back in
the early 80's and never issued. I got it from a guy that had bought a
bunch of them. It was still in the unopened HAL shipping boxes with all
protective wrappings intact. The moisture indicators were all blue as
well, indicating that it had been kept dry over the years. I talked
with the people at HAL and got their software package DS RTTY-WIN for
it. I modified the rear panel connectors to DE-9's from the original
military Cannon plugs. Made it much easier to interface to the
computer. PTT, Audio IN and Audio OUT were modified to RCA connectors.
Main reason I picked it up was during my career in the Army Security
Agency, just before I retired in 1981, I wrote up the lesson plans to
teach the repair of these. We never ran the class though as the
warranty was a direct replacement of the box by HAL at the time. Wish I
had kept a copy of the LP, it would come in handy today as there a
number of these boxes out there.
