TTY follies - the story so far
Late this morning I decided to try to copy a Saturday pix for the first
time
- Am I prepared? Not At All.
Well now, this requires overstrike. Have I got a printer without auto LF?
nope nope nope, maybe that one in the ASR?
Where's the ASR? - moved into another room and not hooked up yet.
Turn on ASR and put it in local loop - oh yeah I forgot that this keyboard
transmitter quit working. Will have to test with a
keyboard in the other room.
Pull the typing unit or test it where it is?
find/rob and plug together 3 loop extension cords and run across the
floor and out the door to the ASR.
ASR runs open. Take apart cable and reverse polarity. Patch in a KSR for
test - It prints! It overstrikes!
OK, run another cable from the Dovetron to yet another room with a
computer. Get some ITTY audio.
The 28ASR is printing, hurrah! And I am 45 minutes early.
You know I ought to make a tape of this kitty kat. Oh, my only running
60wpm reperfs are full chad with no vacuum.
That would be a super mess!
OK, rob a chadless reperf off one ROTR and swap it for the one in the 60wpm
ROTR.
Climb up the ladder (the 60 wpm ROTR is installed on the top shelf of a
rack)
Eek! the clock is striking 12. But we're finally punching holes (well
semi-holes).
Have you ever tried threading the ribbon on a printing reperf while it is
running?
Maybe you experienced guys can do it no problem, but all I could do was get
inky hands.
That'll have to wait until the panel break.
Tape piling up everywhere - go get a trash can.. Balance the trash can on
top of the nearby RT unit.
Oh rats the red paper tape is showing up as end of reel - but we're almost
done. Did we make it? I think so.
End of Panel 1, so begin a Panic Session.
Go get a roll of tape - look at the small core tape roll and the large core
reel. Go dig up a small core reel.
Eek! the printer has started up - did I get the tape threaded in time? I
dunno.
Hmm, what's that smell of burning plastic?
Oh just the cable from the ROTR base to the reperf ribbon connector getting
sawed in half by the motor flywheel....
Try threading a tie-wrap as my fingers keep getting knocked out of the way
by the printwheel mechanism.
Panel 2 is now printing and punching.....
What next I wonder??
