The 74 came in three versions:
74 Drum printer
74B and C both had the dot Matrix printer with a unusual ribbon pack. Only
way I ever fixed mine was to splice the new ribbon on the old ribbon and
then pull it through and splice it back to geather when the new end came
back out............
Wht a PAIN1! but did work for a while.

Those apply to the drum printer model AN/UGC-74(V)3
There is a later model that is dot matrix, but I don't know the manual
numbers for it, nor the designation.
