Most series-governed TTYs have some illumination over the target wheel
(unless ambient is sufficient, like most Kleinschmidts). The light is
just for illumination, the strobe comes from the tuning fork.

The other day, I needed to check the speed of our TG-7 (military M15)
machines. I remembered seeing a tuning fork in a Teletypewriter
Repairman's Tool Case that had come into the Museum recently. Sure
enough, there was a tuning fork in the kit, but it was 123 Hz.
I thought it might be for the German 50 baud machines, but then I found
that they used 125 Hz. I tried the 123 Hz fork on a German T63 we have
and it did not stop the bars on the motor, so it is not close enough.
Anyone know what a 123Hz fork would be for??
Thanks,
Duncan

(I did find a 87.6 Hz fork to check the TG-7)
