It was a lot of things.
TWX had been around since the '30s, so I'm sure they were using
Model 15s, 19s, 28s, 32s in the "three row" system (Baudot) and
later started using the 33s and such in the "four row" (ASCII) mode.

But the point I was trying to make, is I think the TW39 interface on
the i-Telex board is set up to do exactly what the Lorenz Dialer is
expecting. NOT what American/Western Union/TWX dial control
units are expecting to see from the "central office."
And this is why you have the "dual mode" board with both TW39
and a serial loop connection.
