[GreenKeys] Model 33 bell problem

Doug,

You dont need to remove the carriage or platen. Just move the carriage out of the way. Sometimes it helps to remove the carriage return spring.

Under the codebars there are some flexible long U shaped leaf springs. There are two I believe, one on the left and one on the right. Blued in color.

You lower the leaf spring under the code bar, remove the code bar spring and work the code bar out down and towards the front. Tricky but can be done. Then wiggle the code bar back into the correct slot. Add the spring and there is a vertical pawl involved. Not sure about moving that or maybe there is already one in the new slot. Make sure to return the leaf spring to its normal position.

All this has to be done with the printer removed.

Hope this helps,

Wayne

On this parts list, you can see that slot 1 in the assembly should be unused while the automatic codebar goes in slot 2. As misassembled, our machine has the automatic codebar in slot 1 and slot 2 is unused.

Can I do it from the right end of the TU without removing the platten and carriage, or do I have to remove the platten and carriage. In the worst case I can imagine that this fix requires also removing the entire codebar assembly from the base, making for some really tricky reassembly since the codebar assembly includes the combs that align the function levers and blocking levers.
