Just replace the ribbon. AFAIK Teletype machines all use standard
Underwood ribbons, which also fit a large variety of typewriters. They
are readily available from several sources. Two are

And Baco Ribbons, you can find them with a Google search.
For a Teletype you want Nylon ribbons. Cotton prints darker but is not
as long lasting and tends to smudge a little.
Ribbons are cheap and long lasting. If you have metal spools you can
wind the new ribbon onto them if you choose. Some typewriters have odd
spools but I think Teletype uses plain standard ones. If you have metal
spools but choose not to use them don't toss them, take the old ribbon
off and save them. Make sure when ordering the ribbon to let the seller
know what they are for. Standard Underwood ribbons have eyelets at each
end to work the automatic reversing mechanism, I think this is what is
used for Teletype also.
If you try to glue or even sew the old ribbon the patch may get
caught in the ribbon carrier and jam it. Not worth it. New ribbons cost
around $8 each.
