Hi all!
We, the professionals, wink, wink, nudge, nudge, at our shop wud
place all four hold down screws in the typing unit and carefully
lowered the typing unit onto the base hoping not to flip one
or more screws out of the holes in the process...
Nick, you guessed correctly! Once typing unit settled on base,
a long thin shaft, wide blade screwdriver was used to tighten down
the screws...
Some guys wud take short cuts by only installing two screws,
one in the rear right leg, and the other in the left front leg...
I personally was not a fan of this, and preferred all four to be
installed...
When I replaced a typing unit on base, I wud use a long split end
special tool to hold the screw, lower it in and spin it down as far
as possible, and finish up the tightening process with the long thin
screwdriver, Nick's favorite...Sorry boys, no shortcut for this job!
Teletype Corp'n has the split end tool, but I don't know the part
number, it may be in the tool bulletin...
Cheers!
Ken
