Thanks, Wayne, for the Teletype Return Lobe Plate part 180571.  Easy to install, and once the dashpot is adjusted, manually flicking the return lever causes a carriage return, after which, successive letters space to the left.

Unfortunately now, I find that the back end of the carriage return actuator lever is floating loose, not engaged and unable to decode the carriage return.  I spent a bit of time trying to figure out how to engage these parts, to no avail.
