As the Engineer at KMYC in the mid 60's we had a UPI machine (M15 with metel table) and as I had been in TTY in the Army I was "elected" to watch out for it. We used the normal yellow rolls of paper and had a box of ribbons on the shelf.

It was in a closet next to the transmitter and everyone was told to "watch the paper". When the roll got down to the redline then anyone was to change it. Never did see anyone from UPI, and it ran 24/7 and just piled up on the floor. I would check in the morning when I came in as the overn night guy usualy did not think to put in a new roll of paper!

For the "news cast" you just picked up a couple of feet and read it live on the air.........................

Of course both of us engineers would NEVER think of setting the paper alight when in the news cast! ! ! ! ! ! !

O well the "Good Old Days"..............When Broadcasting was FUN ! ! ! ! !
