yes.... hook  solid state   later  tty   replacement to the deaf to the 
iphone...
sorry I missed  the start of this Indeed that is  the   intent of  this  
plug. 
I have tried similar  with some of our newer  TTY   devices  with my android
to limited results.
 
To further things  along... I  tried  one of those add on  handsets  that 
look  like   a handset of a  bell 500  series phone with a deaf  tty  
acoustic  coupler...    was able  to print on the   28  but   sending   did not  
work... I suspect too much  distortion.......

Yes,  it's an audio plug. The original intention of it was to connect a
TDD to  the iPhone, not a headset. For those still asking what a TTY or

Interestingly  enough --- and I think this has been mentioned on the
mailing list before  --- TTY's for the deaf and hearing impaired were
originally actual older  Teletype machines. Didn't someone here on
Greenkeys do an entire history  document on the development of  TTY/TDD
systems?
