[GreenKeys] Teletype Model 33 Platen Restoration

They did not share the entire process with me, but explained that they first remove the old rubber material, then create a new surface on a mandrel cut to the same diameter as the '33 platen.  Next, using pressurized air, they transfer the surface to the '33 platen - apparently no adhesive material is used, so it is easy to repeat the process again if needed.  Finally, the platen is "ground" to the OEM specified O.D.
The job was VERY professional - i.e., looks like a NOS part.

So what's the basic refurbishing technique for a platen or roller? Is it similar to retreading a tire, where the rubber is wound on in a thin sheet, after which the piece is placed in a heated mold to vulcanize & cure, followed up by whatever grinding / trimming / finishing is required.

I'd like to have my model 19's platen done, but I'm not sure I want to take disassembly and reassembly...
